A driver sustained life threatening injuries when an SUV ran under a stopped tractor-trailer on US Highway 301 near Waldo on Sunday morning.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, rescue units responded to the 10:35 a.m. collision and extracted the driver from the SUV using cutters and spreaders to free the victim.

Emergency responders transported the driver to a local hospital.

I hope those involved will be OK, but I wanted to voice my appreciation for the writer’s use of the phrase ’emergency responders’. It’s much more accurate than lumping officials into the same category as those people who are actually the first to respond.
