A 62-year-old Tampa man died Thursday night in Gainesville after running a stop sign and crossing in front of another vehicle.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at the corner of NE Waldo Road and NE 63rd Avenue, which is just north of Gainesville Regional Airport.
The Tampa man was driving a Ford sedan west on NE 63rd Avenue when he failed to stop at the stop sign and rolled into the path of a Nissan sedan traveling north on Waldo Road.
“This caused the front of the Nissan to strike the left side of the Ford,” FHP reported.
The Tampa man, his 44-year-old female passenger from Gainesville, and the 29-year-old Gainesville man driving the Nissan sedan were all taken to UF Health Shands Hospital. The Tampa man was pronounced dead, while his female passenger is listed in serious condition. The Gainesville man is listed in critical condition.
The Tampa man was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, according to FHP. It was not immediately known whether his female passenger or the Gainesville man driving the Ford sedan were wearing seatbelts.
