
A 73-year-old Tampa woman died Tuesday morning when her SUV traveled off US 90 east of Lake City and collided with a railroad gate mechanism.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Tampa woman was driving west on US 90 near Llewellyn Avenue at 2:10 a.m. when her vehicle traveled off the roadway and crashed into a railroad gate mechanism and gate lever.
The railroad gate was not active at the time and no trains were reportedly in the area or affected the crash.
Emergency responders transported the woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, to UF Shands Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
