A 64-year-old McAlpin man died and three other people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of County Road 240 and County Road 131 in Columbia County on Tuesday morning.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a McAlpin woman, 56, was driving a sedan east on CR 240 at 11:50 a.m. when she failed to stop at the intersection of CR 131 and was hit by a pickup truck being driven north on CR 131 by a 28-year-old Lake City man. The pickup collided with the right side of the sedan.
In the sedan, the driver and a 27-year-old McAlpin man were seriously injured while emergency responders to the 64-year-old McAlpin male passenger to a local hospital, where he later died. The pickup driver was also seriously injured.
This accident was horrible! I got there within a few minutes after it happened. I was going to pick up my son’s friend who broke down right there that intersection. He seen the whole thing happen. I was literally praying that they would be able to save the man in the passenger seat of the car, while they were giving him chest compressions. I remember the woman that was driving laying down, with her head over to her the man’s lap. She was crying so loudly, she must’ve been in so much pain. There was a guy in the backseat of the car, but I never really seen much of him. Then the guy that they hit in the pick up truck has his forehead gashed completely open all the way. I was talking to him trying to take his mind off of everything going on. I feel so bad for everybody involved. I pray for comfort and healing for all. I also pray that God gives comfort to the ones that lost a loved one.
the people in the sedan that were in the wreck were my grandparents and my uncle. my grandpa was the one who passed. and the fhp is LYING my grandma stopped at the stop sign and went when it was clear when all of a sudden a truck driver came in at about 70mph hitting them from the side.
The Florida State Patrol did their job correctly. It’s very unfortunate that a life was lost and serious critical injuries happened due to drive failing to stop. It’s a tragedy. she did stop the vehicle tho. there was nobody, no witnesses at the wreck until AFTER it happened. my grandma DID STOP at the stop sign.
There were witnesses that she didn’t stop. It’s sad that it happened. All parties should be more concerned about dealing with the tragedy than trying to go against troopers who are trained in this. The FST have investigated with reports from witnesses that the female driver was at fault. Someone tragically lost their life and another driver was hurt very badly because the female failed to stop.

Wanted to reply that the woman who run the stop sign is blaming the other driver and had decided to sue him even though the car accident was her fault sadly killing her husband. It’s only fair the other driver should know her intentions since she didn’t not obey traffic laws. It was reported by others therefore the injured man they were accusing him of doin drugs an caused the accident
I think the other man hurt in the accident should be notified that the family who had relative die are making statements on social media and and at the hospital that it was his fault that he tested positive for hard drugs and are going to sue
the hippa law is in place for a reason and this goes against protocol. This is so sad . The 54 yr old female had to do a tox screen which is protocol in the event you cause a death driving and break the law as she did, I don’t know this other driver but someone needs to reach out to them on what they are spreading on social media and not waiting on reports from FSP. This is deflamtion of character and should be stopped. The local news channel investigators have been informed to investigate these allugatoons

Actually, Mathew, I don’t think you have a right to speak not knowing my grandma, my grandfather, and my uncle. She stopped at the stop sign, looked both ways, even got my grandfather too look and he didn’t see anything either. She went forward and suddenly the truck driver, not only was going over the speed limit, but was also drinking, and collided with her/my grandma’s car. Killing my grandpa, and heavily injuring both my grandma and my uncle. Don’t take a part in the situation if your not the one who has law papers, and evidence. Am I a year late to this, yes. But that doesn’t mean i don’t have the right to speak up.
