A sergeant for the Union County Sheriff’s Office struck an ATV traveling at night without lights, injuring two young adults Friday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 241 and County Road 241A, which is about 10 miles west and slightly south of Lake Butler.
FHP reported that a 22-year-old male from Lake Butler was driving the ATV without lights in the middle of the lane on County Road 241. The sergeant, who was responding to a call, struck the back of the ATV with his patrol truck.
The driver of the ATV suffered minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. His passenger, a 22-year-old female from Lake Butler, also suffered minor injuries but was transported to HCA Florida Lake City Hospital for further evaluation.
The accident is under investigation.
Who is that dumb to ride without lights in the middle of the road. Lucky it was the police and not a drunk driver.
All that is a lie the girl lives with me and we viewed the dashcam they clearly had their lights on the 4 wheeler and the deputy had more than enough time to avoid the accident.. the officer never hit his brakes. What they reported was false and unfortunately her injuries aren’t minor.. But, I guess they got to stick together. I am a big supporter of law enforcement but, they handled this very poorly and is not going away anytime soon.
Maybe it’s time to stop your blind support of law enforcement, huh? Smh. You people never care until it happens to you.
