Update: Alachua County Public Schools reported Thursday at 1:45 pm that Newberry High School has been cleared by law enforcement and nothing suspicious was found.
A bomb threat Thursday morning forced the evacuation of Newberry High School, according to an email from Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS).
“Students are being evacuated to West Park while law enforcement conducts a sweep,” ACPS spokesperson Jackie Johnson wrote in an email to parents that was shared with Mainstreet Daily News. “Parents may pick up their students, but it is not required.”
Johnson pledged to keep parents informed of developments.
The evacuation comes on the heels of a spate of bomb threats at Buchholz High School, the largest school in the district. Last week authorities arrested a Buchholz student they believe is responsible for at least two of the threats.
Santa Fe College also briefly shut down due to a bomb threat last week.
