Update: FHP seeks info in fatal hit and run

Update (4:30 p.m.): Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run Friday morning in east Alachua County. According to FHP, the vehicle is likely a 2007 to 2012 model Dodge Caliber and should be missing a black plastic mirror from the passenger side. 

FHP investigators also believe the car will have “significant damage” to the right side windshield.” 

FHP is asking anyone with information about the vehicle or driver to contact FHP at 1-800-387-1290 or Crime Stoppers of Alachua County either online or at 352-372-7867.

Our original story (12:23 p.m.):

Investigators are looking for an unknown vehicle that struck and killed a Keystone Heights man Friday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release, the accident occurred at 7 a.m. on State Road 26 near County Road 1469, which is east of Orange Heights in eastern Alachua County. 

FHP reported the victim was walking along State Road 26 when an unidentified vehicle struck him and then fled the scene. First responders pronounced the man dead on the scene. 

FHP identified the victim as a 37-year-old man from Keystone Heights, but did not release any other identifying information. Next of kin had not been notified at the time of the FHP announcement, which went out shortly after noon Friday. 

FHP said it would release more information as the investigation progresses.
