Update: LCPD identifies pedestrian hit by train

Update (3:55 p.m.): The Lake City Police Department released the name of the man hit and killed by a train near NW Dixie Avenue Tuesday morning. He was identified as William Josh Cameron, 28, of Concord, New Hampshire.

LCPD officers responded to the Florida Gulf and Atlantic Railroad (FGAR) Tuesday morning after a train struck and killed a pedestrian near NW Dixie Avenue.

According to the LCPD press release, FGAR workers reported an accident involving the train and the pedestrian at 3:55 a.m. and when first responders arrived they found a deceased white male who had been struck by the train. 

“The train tried to stop when they saw him,” said LCPD spokesperson Greg Burnsed in a phone interview, adding that the deceased was not from the area. 

LCPD and FGAR are investigating the incident. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
