Updating Breaking News: Driver who crashed into FHP cruiser arrested

The Florida Highway Patrol released the name and arrested the suspect  that allegedly crashed into a FHP cruiser on Interstate 75 the morning of April 6th.  

Upon his release from Ocala Regional Hospital at approximately 12:00 pm on Sunday April 19th Grant Motonga, 38 of Orlando, was taken into custody by FHP without incident. Motonga was then transported and booked into the Marion County Jail.

According to the report, a marked FHP patrol unit was parked on the paved median emergency lane, facing north. Motonga was traveling north on 1-75, at mile marker 346 in Marion County when his 2002 Oldsmobile Alero veered to the left off the roadway, entered the paved median emergency lane and struck the left rear section of the FHP cruiser with its left front section. The FHP vehicle then rotated counterclockwise and struck the guardrail twice. Motonga sustained critical injuries during the crash and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The driver and passenger in the FHP cruiser (both troopers) sustained nonincapacitating injuries during the crash and were transported to West Marion Hospital for medical treatment.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash

Motonga was charged with reckless driving, DUI, and driving without a license.
