The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) recovered the unresponsive body of David Savioe, on Saturday morning after he went missing with another boater on Wednesday.
The sunken fishing boat “Dog House” was spotted seven miles off the shore of Cedar Key and reported by a good Samaritan at 11 a.m. on Dec. 29.
A search and rescue mission then ensued for still missing Michael Sedor, 39, of Inglis, and the deceased Savioe, 33, of Crystal River. A dog was also reportedly onboard.
Coast Guard crews have searched for nearly 60 hours covering more than 948 square nautical miles.
According to a statement released by the USCG 7th District PA Detachment Tampa Bay, “Coast Guard crews have searched for nearly 60 hours covering more than 948 square nautical miles,” with the help of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends and loved ones of David,” said Capt. Matthew Thompson, commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg. “Our rescue crews have been diligently continuing the search and rescue efforts to find Michael.”
Rescue assets involved in the search so far include the Coast Guard Station Yankeetown 27-foot boat crew, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diamondback, Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 and MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrews, FWC marine crews and the LCSO rescue team.
