VA expands vaccine-eligible criteria

On Thursday the Veterans Administration released additional guidance for military veterans who wish to receive COVID-19 vaccination. Here is the message in its entirety:

We understand many of our Veteran patients are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and we are working diligently to schedule appointments as quickly as possible. While the State of Florida is offering the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals over the age of 65, the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System is following our phased distribution plan in accordance with CDC and VHA guidelines. We are offering vaccinations by appointment only to the following categories of Veterans receiving care at VA and will contact them directly to schedule an appointment:

– Veterans over the age of 75

– VA Congregate Living Residents

– High Risk Veterans: Homeless Veterans, Hemodialysis patients, and Chemotherapy patients (receiving chemotherapy in a clinic/hospital setting) of any age.

VA care teams are actively reaching out to eligible Veterans to schedule vaccinations. There is no need to preregister, call, or come to a facility to sign up. All vaccinations will be by appointment only.

Once we have vaccinated all interested Veterans that meet our current criteria, additional groups of Veterans will be contacted to schedule an appointment. We thank you for your patience.
