Weekend wrecks result in two fatalities

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating separate fatality accidents that occurred in the area late Sunday.

The first resulted in the death of a 44-year-old Jacksonville woman around 5:30 p.m. in Alachua County, according to a FHP press release. She was driving a 2010 Hyundai sedan toward Gainesville on NE Waldo Road when, near the intersection at NE 63rd Avenue, she lost control of the vehicle. She veered into eastbound traffic and into the path of a semi truck, which struck the Hyundai and killed the driver.

The driver of the semi, a 42-year-old Bradenton man, was uninjured in the accident. FHP is continuing to investigate.

A few hours later in Suwannee County, a 16-year-old Wellborn boy died in a single-car crash. A FHP press release reported he was driving north on 37th Road between Branford and Fort White when he ran a stop sign at U.S. Route 27. He ran onto the shoulder and was ejected from the car when it began flipping. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead on the scene.

FHP did not identify either of the victims.
