A 71-year-old Williston man died and a 23-year-old Williston woman is in serious condition following a three-vehicle collision on State Road 121 Monday morning.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Williston woman was driving an SUV north on SR 121 at 8:45 a.m. when she attempted to pass a tractor-trailer driven by a 59-year-old Williston man. The woman stuck an oncoming sedan driving by the 71-year-old Williston man going south on SR 121, striking the left front of the vehicle. The sedan rotated and struck the tractor-trailer with its rear section.
Emergency responders pronounced the 71-year-old Williston man dead on scene and transported the 23-year-old Williston woman to UF Shands Hospital with serious injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
This happened because a person was doing 40 MPH going way under the posted speed limit. All of our old people need to do the speed limit or just stop driving. People have jobs and places to be. We count on people driving the speed limit when we factor our time in to get somewhere. By not doing the speed limit you make people have to judge distance, time and speed to pass you and they take unnecessary risks all because you are retired and have no respect for other people’s time because you can afford to be slower and make others late. Prayers to all involved.
I worked in Gainesville for 8 years from williston. I was run off the road by speeders trying to pass. One time we were 3 cars abreast! 121 is a very dangerous road. I think a few passing lanes would help and doing the speed limit and not over the speed limit. Motorists are passing with no regard for any one else.
