Alachua County prepares for 15,000 athletes in 2026 indoor track season

Alachua County will kick off its 2026 indoor track season at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center (ACSEC) on Jan.15, hosting a lineup of national and global events before concluding on March 7.  

According to a release from the county announcing the schedule, the indoor season is expected to bring around 15,000 athletes, their coaches and families from around the world over the eight weekends of competition. 

The Jimmy Carnes Invitational, hosted by the Gainesville Sports Commission, will kick off the season, which ends with the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships running its second consecutive year on the Jimmy Carnes Track.

Training opportunities at ACSEC, located at 4870 Celebration Pointe Ave, in Gainesville, will also be available and announced in January. 

2026 Indoor Track Season: 

Jan. 15-18: Jimmy Carnes Invitational 
Jan. 23-24: Sports and Events Center Invitational and Multi-Event 
Jan. 24-25: Sunshine Showcase and US Pentathlon Challenge 
Jan. 31–Feb. 1: The Legends of Alachua County Invitational 
Feb. 6: Visit Gainesville, Alachua County Indoor Classic 
Feb. 7: Florida High School Indoor Championship 
Feb. 8: FLYRA Youth Indoor Championships 
Feb. 20–21: The Sun Conference/Southern States Conference Combined Indoor Championships 
Feb. 23: Peachbelt Conference Championships 
March 3–7: NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships 

“The ACSEC bolsters the tourism economy, supports local businesses, and reinforces our reputation as a welcoming and competitive destination,” said Jessica Hurov, Alachua County’s tourism and economic development director, in the release. “We’re proud of the facility’s success and the partnerships that make it such a valuable community asset, and we look forward to an exciting 2026 and beyond.” 

To date, ACSEC has hosted four national championships and one world championship. The World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships held at ACSEC in March was the event’s first meet on U.S. soil.  

An additional national championship and world championships are already confirmed for the 2027 season. 

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners took control of managing in October. According to the release, the county aims for the facility to bolster long-term growth in hospitality, workforce development and enhanced visibility for the county with a range of year-round events. 

The county said the meets scheduled on the 2026 indoor season calendar contribute to its commitment to investing in facilities that elevate experiences for athletes and visitors while enriching the quality of life for residents. 

“These events bring people together through sport while also strengthening our local economy,” said ACSEC’s Manager Stephen Rodriguez in the release. “The custom-built World Athletics compliant Mondo indoor track at ACSEC enhances our ability to host major competitions, serve athletes at every level, and shines a spotlight on some of the exceptional opportunities in Alachua County.”
