The 56th Amalie Motor Oil National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Gatornationals four-day drag racing event starts Thursday, March 6, at the Gainesville Raceway.
The four-day event will feature top NHRA stars in Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Top Fuel races.
This year’s Gatornationals will include reigning world champions Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle).
The Sportsman Qualifying event starts at 8 a.m. and the Top Alcohol Qualifying Session at 4:30 p.m. and marks the two races scheduled for Thursday.
The Gatornationals started in 1970 and feature one of the longest concrete launchpads on the NHRA tour at 675 feet, along with notable occasions such as the first 260-mile-per-hour Top Fuel and Funny Car runs in 1984 and the first 270-mph and 300-mph Top Fuel passes in 1986 and 1992, respectively, according to the Gainesville Raceway website.
