The Gainesville volleyball team swept Lincoln (Tallahassee) at Leon (Tallahassee) on Tuesday night.
GHS (15-8) won the opening set 25-16 to seize momentum early and completed the sweep with a 25-16 victory in the second set and a 25-17 win in the third set.
Brooklyn Tealer led the ‘Canes with 18 kills. Sophomore Meme Davis added 15 digs, and Chloe Petrik led the way with 34 assists.
The Hurricanes, the No. 5 seed in Class 6A-District 3, will play top seed and host Leon on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the district semifinals. The district championship is Friday at 7 p.m.
Forest (Ocala) ended Buchholz’s season with a 3-0 win in the other semifinal.
The Bobcats finished the season at 3-13, while the Wildcats (15-10) will face Chiles (Tallahassee), which eliminated Columbia (Lake City), in the other semifinal on Thursday.
Top seed Oak Hall School (Gainesville) advanced to the 2A-District 4 championship with a sweep of No. 4 seed Countryside Christian. The Eagles will face St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park) for the district title on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
Top seed Union County (Lake Butler) swept No. 4 seed Hilliard, 25-11, 25-14, 25-21, in the 1A-District 7 Semifinals. The Tigers (12-8) will face No. 2 seed Newberry in Thursday night’s district championship at Union County at 6:30 p.m.
The 1A state runners-up advanced with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 sweep of Bradford (Starke) in the other district semifinal. Senior Kirsten Thomas led the Panthers (17-9) with 17 service points and five aces. Senior Abby Pace dished out 20 assists and senior Mykenzie Tiller added 12 digs and seven kills.
Bell advanced to the 1A-District 6 championship with a 3-1 win against Trenton, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24,25-17. The top-seeded Bulldogs (13-11) will host No. 2 seed Dixie County (Cross City) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. for the district title. The Bears (13-9) defeated Chiefland, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 26-24, in the other district semifinal.
In other action, Santa Fe swept Palatka in 4A-District 4 to advance to Thursday’s district final, and Williston advanced to the 1A-District 8 final with a sweep of Fort Meade. The Red Devils will play top seed Taylor (Pierson) in Thursday night’s district championship at 7 p.m.
