Buchholz, Gainesville to clash in city showdown

It’s game time again! Tonight marks the start of Week 7 of the 2021 high school football season.

As we announced previously, this year we are bringing you two games live each week, but this time it’s split between Thursday and Friday games.

Tonight’s city championship matchup between the Buchholz Bobcats and Gainesville Hurricanes will air on 106.9 FM I Am Country from Citizens Field in Gainesville with a special three-man crew featuring Mike Ridaught, Marty Pallman and Cameron Parker calling the game. The pre-game show starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.

Buchholz senior wide receiver Quan Lee has a chance to set the Alachua County all-time receiving yards record in tonight’s contest. Lee entered the 2021 season 400 yards shy of the mark and he unofficially needs 56 yards to eclipse the record.

Both teams enter the contest with 4-1 records after Buchholz demolished the Leon (Tallahassee) Lions, 49-3, in the Bobcats’ homecoming game last Friday.

Gainesville is coming off a bye week and is riding a four-game win streak that includes a 49-14 victory over Santa Fe (Alachua) on Sept. 24.

The out-of-conference rivalry was canceled last year due to COVID. In the prior 10 meetings, the Hurricanes have won six times, but Buchholz has taken the last two contests, winning 18-13 in 2019 and 27-7 in 2018.
