The Niceville Eagles remained unbeaten with a thrilling 38-35 double overtime victory against the Buchholz Bobcats.
It was an impressive season for the Buchholz. After a 35-14 loss to Oakleaf of Orange Park, the Bobcats reeled-off eight straight wins, are averaging 42.22 points per game and have outscored its opponents 381-187. But as impressive as their season has been, Niceville’s season has been just as storong.
The Niceville Eagles are averaging 49.33 points per game and allowing just over 10. They have logged four shoutouts in their nine games. They have never scored under 35 points. It has been a trail of tears and scorched earth for its opponents this season.
It was only inevitable they would play perhaps the most exciting game of the season.
Niceville took the early lead with a first quarter touchdown. Buchholz answered, but a missed extra point gave Niceville a 7-6 lead. The two teams scored touchdowns again in the second half and went into halftime tied 14-14.
Both teams scored again in the third quarter, but the Bobcats second touchdown of the period gave them a 28-21 lead heading into the final quarter.
Niceville tied the game in the fourth quarter 28-28, sending it into overtime.
Both Buchholz and Niceville scored overtime touchdowns, but a field goal in the second overtime period by Niceville was the difference.
Buchholz ends its storybook season at 8-2. The Eagles remain unbeaten at 10-0, and advance to the regional finals.
