
Riley Smith and Eleanor Whisler topped their respective races and led the Buchholz boys and girls cross country teams to wins at the 23rd annual Bobcat Classic on Saturday.
The Buchholz boys team finished with 33 points for first place, beating second-place Mandarin who had 69 points. St. Francis Catholic took third with 100 points.
Smith ran the 5K race in 16 minutes, 34.8 seconds. Buchholz teammate Evan Fleming took second at 16:36.8.
Other area runners to finish in the top 10 included Sam Stone (St. Francis Catholic) with a fourth-place time of 16:56, Clement Weiler (Gainesville) at sixth place in 17:12.2, Samuel Freas (Buchholz) at seventh in 17:17.2 and Gino Palazollo (Buchholz) at 10th in 17:51.1.
On the girls side, Buchholz won with 28 points ahead of Mandarin’s 56 total points.
Whisler won the 5K race in 19:41.4 and teammate Kaitlyn Goslinga took third in 20:06.7. Buchholz runners Ashley Hamilton placed seventh in 21:18.9, Karsyn Goslinga was eighth at 21:39.1 and Maggie Whisler took ninth in 21:41.4.
The Bobcat Classic was run at Santa Fe College in Gainesville.
