The Eastside Rams went 2-0 this past weekend at the Florida Get Down Holiday Basketball Showcase at St. Francis Catholic Academy.
Eastside, which is ranked fifth in Class 4A by MaxPreps, had an 82-78 come from behind win in overtime against Calvary Christian (Clearwater).
Jarvy Gainey finished with 25 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter and overtime period. He was one of four players in double figures for the Rams. Qua Brodus scored 19 of his 24 in the first half.
Omar Brown added 16, and Jahiem Smith scored 11 for Eastside.
On Saturday, the Rams defeated Callahan West Nassau, 71-59. Gainey led the Rams again with 21 points. Brown had 15, followed by Brodus with 11.
It offset a big performance by Georgia Tech signee Deebo Coleman, who scored 33 points for the Warriors.
Eastside improves to 8-1 with the wins and will travel to North Marion on Tuesday night.
The Rock, Santa Fe and P.K. Yonge finished 1-1.
On Sunday, The Rock School national team lost 72-56 to Oakleaf Post Grad. The Lions were playing without starting guard Kyle Duke, who was injured from a knee to the thigh during Saturday’s game. Freshman R.J. Jones led The Rock with 16 points. Senior Jayce Harrison was next with 13 points.
The Rock defeated PHS Academy Post Grad, 88-67, on Saturday. Duke led the way with 20 points, followed by Sasha Letino with 16 points and Jones with 11 points.
On Friday, Santa Fe lost to 3A No. 6 Providence (Jacksonville), 34-30. North Carolina State signee Ernest Ross and sophomore Don’Trell Jenkins scored 12 points each.
The Raiders (6-4) snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a 61-53 win against Santa Fe Catholic (Lakeland). Jenkins led Santa Fe with 20 points, including four three-pointers, followed by Ross, who scored nine of his 13 points in the second half.
P.K. Yonge lost to Tampa Catholic on Friday, falling 63-60. Sophomore Greg Maxwell led the way with 16 points, followed by junior Adrian Bloodworth with 14 points.
Junior Jalen Jerkins just missed a double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Blue Wave (6-3) bounced back to defeat St. Francis Catholic, 53-50, on Saturday.
Jerkins finished with a team-high 19 points. Junior Tez Williams scored 10 points off the bench.
Senior Aidan Newman, who scored 31 points on Friday night, led St. Francis Catholic with 20 points. Junior Ashton Lovette was next with 18 points.
The Wolves, who lost 75-72 to Strawberry Crest (Dover) on Friday, finished 0-2 at the tournament.
