Bauer said ‘Wow’ is a great way to describe this year’s GHS team.

“They are hardworking, coachable, and a great family,” said Bauer, who is joined on staff by Associate Head Coach and Lifting Coordinator, Deac Story, assistant head coach Katherine Martinez- Malo, assistant coach Tony Malo (technique coordinator), Joseph Thomas (assistant technique coach) and assistant coach Sonya Cardoso. “With a great staff to coach our team, we are continuing to maintain a winning record in the regular season (139-4) and look forward to the postseason.”

Special recognition goes out to the senior class.

“It’s been a great four-year run for our seniors with four straight city titles, three district titles, and two regional titles, with more to come,” Bauer said. “They bring the excitement to our home meets.”

Bauer added that senior three-year captain Ryan Black, and captains Kate Lundy, Daisy Engebretsen, and Emma Stripling “have great leadership skills.”

“They are what makes our team run,” he said. “Gainesville High School girls weightlifting is the hottest ticket in town. A strong woman is an empowered woman.”
