On Tuesday night, the Hurricanes got revenge with a 7-5 win on the road.

Buchholz has been closing the gap, though. After losing 19 in a row in the series from 2015-2024, the Bobcats had won two of the last four before Tuesday’s meeting.

“They have a good team, like they’ve been playing good this year,” said GHS coach Chris Chronister. “I’m not sure we were ready in the first game. It was early in the season. We had a lot of defensive miscues that didn’t help our cause, but they played good. They played good tonight. It was a good game. We were fortunate to come out on top.”

GHS (8-6) struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

Texas A&M commit Leanna Bourdage singled to right field, and after senior Lana Renicks walked, she scored on an single to center field by senior Emma Barton (2-for-3, RBI, RS).

A passed ball brought Renicks home for a 2-0 lead.

Buchholz answered in the bottom of the inning.

Junior shortstop Jordyn Cooper (2-for-3, RS) singled to center field off GHS starting pitcher Aubrey Huddleston and stole second base.

Freshman pitcher Grace McDaniel singled to left field to score Cooper and then stole second base. She went to third base on a ground out by freshman Madison Hooper and scored on a fielder’s choice by junior catcher Quaniyah Robinson (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, RS) to tie the game at 2-2.

“Anytime you go down, you know, it’s hard to accumulate runs, especially with a team like Gainesville,” said Buchholz coach Will Hooper. “They’re a solid team, so to get the opportunity to come back and tie it up right away, it was very important.”

McDaniel retired the side in order in the top of the second and Buchholz took its first lead in the bottom of the second.

Huddleston walked the first two batters and Bourdage came in relief.

After retiring the first batter on a popped-up bunt to third base, Cooper singled to left center field to load the bases.

Bourdage walked McDaniel to give the Bobcats a 4-3 lead and then she hit Hooper for a 4-2 lead.

The junior worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a line out to center field by freshman Avery Fullam. Bourdage tossed six innings of relief and allowed just one run on three hits with three walks, two hit batsmen, and 11 strikeouts.

“She was not on the top of her game tonight, but good pitchers, even when they don’t have their best stuff, can be successful, and that’s what she did tonight,” Chronister said.

GHS sophomore Taylor Rogers doubled to start the top of the third inning and scored on a wild pitch to get within a run, 4-3, before evening the score in the next inning.

In the top of the fourth, the Hurricanes tied it up on a solo home run to left field by junior Aubree Suarez. It was her first home run of the season.

“Huge hit for Aubree, and I don’t think anybody was more surprised than she was,” Chronister said. “It was awesome, I mean, it was a great at bat, a great hit, and that’s what we preach is hitting line drives and that was a line drive, and it just got out of here. She was excited about it. The whole team was excited. It’s great to see that.”

Buchholz (11-4) threatened to take the lead in their half of the fourth.

Bourdage walked Cooper and McDaniel to start the inning, and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and a pair of stolen bases.

After consecutive strikeouts, Cooper attempted to steal home, but GHS catcher Roxy Walsh made the tag out at home plate.

“Yeah, that one stings a little bit,” Hooper said. “That’s probably really only the second time I’ve ever called that my entire coaching career…I felt with her speed, she’s blazing fast, and I just felt like the catcher wasn’t really expecting it…I really felt like we got under the tag. Even my runner felt like she beat it. It’s a tough play for an umpire to make that call. It’s a bang, bang play.”

Bourdage (2-for-3, HR, 2 RS) led off the top of the fifth and crushed a ball over the fence in center field for a 5-4 lead. It was her second home run of the season.

“That was a no doubter,” Chronister said. “She got a pitch that she could handle, and she hit it hard.”

With two outs, second baseman Makenna Young doubled down the right field line and scored on a single to left field by senior Adriana Koralewski for a 6-4 lead.

The ‘Canes added some insurance on a line out to right field by Young, scoring Barton who had singled to start the inning.

Robinson hit her third home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Bourdage ended the game with a pair of strikeouts. She struck out five of the final six batters that she faced.

Buchholz will host Columbia (Lake City) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, while GHS will play at Santa Fe (Alachua) at 7 p.m. on Friday.
