It didn’t take long for the Hawthorne football team to flex its muscles on Friday night.
On the first play of the game, Hornets’ quarterback Tyler Jefferson hit wide receiver Chris Jonas on a 75-yard scoring pass.
The Hornets (4-0), ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, rode the wave from there in building a 26-0 lead at the end of the first quarter en route to a 52-20 win at home against Class 8A West Port (Ocala)
Jefferson finished the game with two touchdowns passing and two touchdowns rushing.
Hawthorne will travel to Suwannee (Live Oak) next Friday, Oct. 1. The game will be broadcast on 106.9 FM “I am Country.”
