Hawthorne headed to the state finals!

And the streak continues.

On Wednesday at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, the Hawthorne boys basketball team defeated Paxton 70-58 in the Class 1A state semifinals to advance to the state championship game.  The Hornets were led by Torey Buie with 32 points and five rebounds, while Donovan Wright pulled down 14 rebounds added seven points. Hawthorne, which improved to 24-3, will face 23-3 Hilliard in the Class 1A state championship game on Friday night at 7.  Hilliard advanced with an 80-59 win against Vernon.

Boy’s Baseball: Bucholz thrashes Starke 

The Buchholz baseball team cruised to a 16-3 win against Starke Bradford in five innings.  The Bobcats had 16 hits and took advantage of five Tornado errors. Austin Akey, Dario Astudillo and Parker Green all had a pair of hits for Buchholz, which will travel to North Marion on Friday and host Ocala Trinity Catholic on Saturday.  Santa Fe lost a tough one on the road, 7-6 at Keystone Heights. The Raiders, now 4-3 on the season, are back in action on Saturday night at Williston.
