Hawthorne rallies past Newberry 20-14

A nook of opportunity was all that was needed and Hawthorne took advantage of it to defeat Newberry 20-14.

There was no room for doubt as the Hornets added to their advantage with a 6-0 margin in the closing period. Nothing was decided in the third quarter, with Hawthorne and Newberry locked in a 14-14 stalemate.

The Panthers constructed a bold start that built a 14-12 gap on the Hornets heading into the locker room.

Hawthorne opened with a 6-0 advantage over Newberry through the first quarter.

The Hornets (1-0) travel to Middleburg in two weeks for their second game of the season. Newberry (0-1), is at home against Trenton next week.
