Plus, we are back at locally owned Sonic Drive-In tonight (Archer Road) with The Rock School varsity boys basketball team, which won its first state title in program history.

Head coach Brian Findley and the state champion Lions will be guests tonight from 6-7 p.m. on “The Prep Zone Sports Show,” which is broadcast ‘live’ and ‘archived’ online (audio only) at MainStreet Daily News and The Prep Zone with Mainstreet Sports Director Mike Ridaught hosting the show.

This past Sunday, TRS defeated Southland Christian, 67-62, in the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA) Sunshine Final at Daytona State College.

Our first baseball broadcast of 2026 is on Thursday night as Gainesville High School hosts Buchholz in the only meeting between the two rivals this season.

The host Hurricanes, who only won seven games last year, are currently 5-4. They average 5.9 runs per game, but they are allowing an average of 6.3 runs.

Senior Chris Eckhardt leads the team with a .435 batting average, followed by sophomore Ty Quinn (.433) and junior Diego Barranco (.400).

They are aiming to snap a 12-game losing streak in the series.

Buchholz, which won a state-best 33 games last year and finished FHSAA Class 6A state runners-up, has struggled and is currently 3-4 heading into tonight’s game at Trinity Catholic (Ocala).

Junior Roen Kresak leads the team offensively with a .375 average, followed by senior Drew Almond (.368) and senior Blake Brewer (.364), who were two of seven players to sign collegiately last month

We will have audio coverage of the game on Mainstreet with Marty Pallman (Play-by-play) and Mike Ridaught (Color) calling the action beginning at 6:45 p.m. The first pitch is at 7 p.m.

Then on Friday, Buchholz hosts Class 3A region finalist Suwannee (Live Oak), which is 5-5 heading into tonight’s home game against Creekside (St. Johns).

Junior Jace Moran leads the ‘Dogs with a .452 average and three home runs.

In the first meeting between the Bulldogs and the Bobcats since 2018, Buchholz edged Suwannee, 8-6, on Feb. 18, 2025.
