Records are always thrown out the door when cross-town rivals meet and that will be the case when Gainesville High and Eastside (Gainesville) clash in Friday night’s Game of the Week.
Gainesville (7-2) captured the Class 6A District 4 championship last Friday in a huge road win at St. Augustine. The Hurricanes kicked a game-winning field goal with 20 seconds remaining in the 17-14 victory, which was Gainesville’s third straight win.
Eastside (2-7) enters the game as winners of back-to-back games following an 0-7 start. The Rams beat Santa Fe (Alachua) on the road last Friday, 39-35, after posting a 27-8 home win over Palatka on Oct. 22.

Over at 106.9 I Am Country, Mike Ridaught and Cam Parker will call the game between South Sumter (Bushnell) at Newberry. The pre-game show starts at 7 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Newberry (5-4) is fourth in Class 1A Region 4—where the top six teams make the state playoffs—but is coming off a 45-13 road loss to Union County last Friday. The Panthers won back-to-back contests leading up to last week with a 35-3 win over Dixie County and a 28-14 victory against Eastside (Gainesville).
South Sumter (5-4) has lost its last two contests. The Raiders fell on the road to Lakeland Christian last Friday, 42-32, and at home to The Villages Charter, 33-7, on Oct. 15.
