The Hawthorne Hornets are one game away from returning to the Class 1A state championship. Only a Friday night matchup with the Chipley Tigers stands in their way.
Last year, the Hornets (9-0) fell to Baker, 27-14, in the title bout. Now Hawthorne will be facing a Chipley team that went on the road and knocked Baker out of the playoffs last Friday, 22-7. The Tigers enter the contest with a 9-3 record.
Hawthorne enters the state semifinal contest after routing Pahokee, 51-12, last Friday and dismantling Wildwood, 50-14, on Nov. 19 in the regional semifinals.Â
