Cross country regionals to be held at SF College

The FHSAA 1A Region 2, 4A Region 1 and 3A Region 1 Cross Country Championships will be held at Santa Fe College starting at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday.

The six boys and girls races will feature 96 teams and 672 athletes, including 11 area teams inside the Mainstreet Daily News coverage area.

The top eight teams plus the top three individuals not on a top eight qualifying team will advance to the state championships to be run on Nov. 5 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

The Buchholz girls are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A and will be favored to win 4A Region 1. They won the 4A District 1 meet last Saturday.

The Bobcats are the defending 4A state champions and are favored to win their second state title in a row and third in school history. Bobcat senior Kate Drummond and junior teammate Lucy Voss will be two of the favorites to take home the individual title.

The Buchholz boys are favored to advance and will face top-ranked ranked Creekside for the 4A Region 1. Last week, the Bobcats finished second at the 4A District 1 meet.

Class 4A’s top-ranked boys runner, Emerson Miller, is favored to win the individual title. Miller is seeking to become the first runner in school history to win a 4A title in Tallahassee. He ran the fastest time in area history for a 5K race this season at 14 minutes, 57.41 seconds.

The Oak Hall boys will face off against second-ranked Circle Christian for the 1A Region 2 title. Oak Hall senior Caden Montini is favored to win the individual title. 

The Oak Hall girls will also face off against Circle Christian and are heavily favored to win the region team title. Oak Hall senior, Sydney Miller will be favored but should be challenged by Circle Christian freshman, Rachel Judy for the individual title.

In the 3A Region 1 boys race, Columbia senior Jose Rodriguez and Gainesville junior Sam Weiler will try for one of the three individual qualifying spots.

In the 3A Region 1 girls race, Gainesville senior Nicole Webber and Columbia senior Audrey Fender will try for one of the three individual qualifying spots.

Here’s a list of the race start times:

Class 4A Region 1 Girls – 7:45 a.m.
Class 4A Region 1 Boys – 8:15 a.m.

Class 1A Region 2 Girls – 9 a.m.

Class 1A Region 2 Boys – 9:30 a.m.

Class 3A Region 1 Girls – 9:45 a.m.

Class 3A Region 1 Boys – 10:15 a.m.
