With school being out for the holiday break, P.K. Yonge and Oak Hall played a rare afternoon game on Monday.
With a 1 p.m. start, it took a while for P.K. Yonge to wake up. But once they did, they overwhelmed host Oak Hall in the second half for a 79-41 romp at Oxborough Gymnasium.
The Blue Wave (4-5) swept the season series with Oak Hall, beating the Eagles at home 61-43 in the season opener on Nov.18.

This time, Oak Hall got out to an early lead against P.K Yonge. Sophomore Max Whitmer knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven of his team-high 12 points in the opening period and the Eagles (5-6) were 6-for-6 from the free throw line to take a 15-11 lead.
P.K. Yonge moved ahead in the second quarter, and the two teams bounced back and forth before the Blue Wave took a 25-21 advantage going into the halftime break.
Junior Decedric Sowell had nine of his game-high 21 points in the first half to lead the Blue Wave. Freshman Tray’sean Jones added six points as well for P.K. Yonge.

Sowell scored six points in the third quarter, and sophomore Collin Meyer came off the bench and added five of his 16 points in the period. P.K. Yonge took over the game in the period, outscoring Oak Hall 21-11 to open up a 46-32 edge going into the final eight minutes.
P.K. Yonge shot the lights out in the final period, knocking down six shots from distance and scoring 33 points to pull away for the decisive win.
It was the 15th consecutive win for P.K. Yonge against Oak Hall. The two teams both play in District 2-2A, so they could see each other again come district tournament time.
