The St. Augustine Yellow Jackets rolled to the top of The Prep Zone Power Poll last week after a big road win at Nease (Ponte Vedra).

And after beating another top 10 team, the Yellow Jackets extend their lead in this week’s poll.

St. Augustine (6-0) easily defeated previously unbeaten then-No. 7 Columbia (Lake City), 41-21, to stay unbeaten. The Yellow Jackets also have a win over fourth-ranked Bolles (Jacksonville), and they earned nine of the 11 first-place votes this week to extend their lead over second-ranked Raines (Jacksonville).

St. Augustine has a well-earned bye this week.

Raines (4-0) returned from a bye week and blanked Riverside (Jacksonville), 49-0. The Vikings travel to rival Ribault (Jacksonville) on Saturday afternoon in the annual Northwest Classic game.

Buchholz passes Bolles and moves up to No. 3. The Bobcats (5-1) took care of an excellent Nease team, 27-7, at home in their district opener.

Bolles dropped a spot despite a wild 73-49 district win at Baldwin. The Bulldogs (5-1) have a bye this week as well. Sophomore running back Xander Edwards had a Northeast Florida record 522 yards rushing, good for second all-time in the state, and he tied a Florida record with eight touchdowns in the Bolles win.

Spruce Creek (Port Orange) rounds out the top five despite not completing their huge district game with No. 6 DeLand. The Hawks (5-0) trailed DeLand 14-0 in the first quarter when the game was postponed due to weather. The two teams will pick the game back up on Nov. 6.

DeLand is followed in the second five by No. 7 Mandarin (Jacksonville), Nease, No. 9 Oakleaf (Orange Park), and 10th-ranked Vanguard (Ocala).

Mandarin (5-1) rebounded from a blowout loss to IMG Academy (Bradenton) the previous week by winning its district opener at First Coast (Jacksonville). Oakleaf also won a big district matchup at Fletcher (Neptune Beach), and Vanguard took care of Lecanto at home 20-3.

Among the Mainstreet Daily News area teams in the second 10 are No. 11 Bradford (Starke), 12th-ranked Columbia and No. 14 Hawthorne. Bradford (5-1) blanked Keystone Heights, 53-0. Hawthorne (3-1) was off for the second straight week.

Columbia (5-1) dropped out of the top 10 after the loss at St. Augustine.

East Ridge (Clermont) is new to the poll this week at No. 19, and Madison County moves back into the 20th position.

Dropping out from last week are then-No. 15 Ed White (Jacksonville), who lost their first game of the season, 52-49, to Merritt Island and 20th-ranked Taylor County (Perry), who, despite being undefeated and on a bye, was replaced in that spot by Madison County.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, girls basketball, boys basketball, softball & baseball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters and it is powered by Anytime Fitness of Gainesville.
