The girls and boys high school soccer regular season is officially over.

This week, the postseason officially begins with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) district tournaments.

Last year, the only school to make it to the state semifinals was the P.K. Yonge girls, who advanced to their first final four in program history.

With most of the team back, the P.K. Yonge girls are believing in another final four run.

In the final FHSAA rankings which were released on Sunday, the Lady Blue Wave (12-2-1) are the highest-ranked team, girls or boys, in the area.

They are no longer the underdogs.

P.K. Yonge, which is seeking its sixth straight district title, is ranked 38th overall in Florida and No. 3 in Class 2A. They are the No. 1 seed in the 2A-District 3 tournament, which will be hosted by No. 2 seed Williston.

The quarterfinals between No. 5 Trenton and No. 4 Trinity Catholic (Ocala) (2-12-2) begins on Thursday. Trenton (2-11-2) returned six starters from last year’s 2A-District 2 runner-up team.

The championship game is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The next highest-ranked girls team is Columbia (Lake City), which is ranked 141st overall and 21st in Class 5A. The Lady Tigers (12-3-1) are the No. 3 seed in 5A-District 3 and will host No. 6 seed Ridgeview (Orange Park) at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

The only other area team with a No. 1 seed is Keystone Heights, which lost to P.K. Yonge in last year’s 3A-District 4 championship game.

The Lady Indians (13-6-3), who are ranked 268th overall in Florida and No. 38 in 3A, are the top seed and host of the 3A-District 4 tournament.

Last year’s 4A-District 2 champion, Santa Fe (Alachua) (3-11), is the No. 2 seed and could face Keystone Heights in the title game on Thursday, Jan. 30.

On the boys side, the highest-ranked area team is Santa Fe.

The Raiders (11-3-2), who will host the 3A-District 4 tournament this week, are ranked 95th overall and 15th in Class 3A. As the top seed, they will play either No. 4 seed North Marion (Citra) or No. 5 seed Palatka at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the district semifinals.

Keystone Heights (11-5-3), the No. 2 seed, lost at Santa Fe, 8-0, on Dec. 2.

The next highest-ranked team is Columbia. The Tigers (9-3-3), who are ranked 167th overall and No. 28 in 5A, are the No. 3 seed in 5A-District 3.

On Wednesday, Columbia will host No. 6 seed Middleburg (6-12-1), who they edged on the road, 2-1, on Nov. 19.

P.K. Yonge is the only other area No. 1 seed. The Blue Wave (14-3-3) will face either No. 5 seed Trenton (3-12-1) or No. 4 seed Trinity Catholic (7-6-3) in next Monday’s district semifinals.

They could face No. 2 seed Newberry in the district championship at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The Panthers (13-3-1) returned nine starters from last year’s 11-8-1 team.

Buchholz, which finished the regular season unbeaten for the first time in program history last year, enters the postseason with a little momentum.

The Bobcats (8-6), who have won five of their last six, including a 3-1 win against Eastside last Friday to win the Alachua County Cup championship, are the No. 4 seed in 6A-District 3 and will host No. 5 seed Tocoi Creek (St. Augustine) on Thursday in the district quarterfinals.

They finished with the third highest ranking (No. 171 overall and No. 40 in 6A) in the area.

The regional tournament quarterfinals for girls and boys begin on Tuesday, Feb. 4 (4A-7A), and Tuesday, Feb. 11 (1A-3A).

Think most of Tues/Wed games have moved to later in week because of weather.
