The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Hall of Fame coach won three state titles at Union County from 1994 to 1996, including a then state record 52 wins in a row.

In September, he reached a national milestone by becoming the first high school football coach in the country to win 200 games in two different states.

UCHS, which posted the news on its Facebook page, sent the following press release:

“Coach Pruitt returns home to Union County, where he previously led the Tigers from 1993 to 1999, compiling an outstanding 79–10 record over seven seasons. During that historic run, the Tigers captured three consecutive state championships (1994, 1995, and 1996) and put together an incredible 52-game winning streak.

Before his time at Union County, Coach Pruitt spent nine seasons at University Christian, earning 88 wins along with four state championships. Following his first tenure with the Tigers, he coached in Georgia for 22 years, with stops at Fitzgerald, Warner Robins, and Coffee County, where his teams compiled a total of 209 wins. Most recently, Coach Pruitt returned to Florida and coached at Williston for four seasons, adding 38 more wins to his résumé.

Coach Robby Pruitt’s career reflects a commitment to hard work, excellence, and the development of both players and coaches. These values have defined his success at every stop along his Hall of Fame career. Notably, he is the only high school football coach in history to record 200 or more wins in two different states, compiling an incredible overall record of 413–101–1 across 42 seasons as a head coach.

Union County is thrilled to welcome Coach Pruitt back home and looks forward to an exciting future for Union County Tiger Football.”

Pruit said he’s only been to Lake Butler about five times since he left following the 1999 season.

He’s excited to get back.

“They fell on hard times this year, but it’s a football community,” Pruitt said. “It’s important to that community, and it’s going to be a lot of work to get it back, but that’s the excitement of it. It’s a special place, a place I called home for a while. I feel like I know the heartbeat of the community, a lot of people. I know things have changed over the last 25-30 years, but it’s still always been a place that was special to me.”
