A pair of area boys basketball teams each picked up wins on the final day of the Jim Haley Christmas Classic at Trinity Catholic (Ocala) on Thursday.

P.K. Yonge defeated Oldsmar Christian via forfeit to improve to 5-6. The Blue Wave finished the tournament at 1-3 but against tough competition.

They lost to Windermere Prep, which is currently ranked No. 5 in Class 7A by MaxPreps, 2-time reigning 6A state champion Bartow, and 4A state runner-up Santa Fe (Alachua).

“Overall, our play was inconsistent at times as we’re still dealing with injuries to some key players that will be major contributors during the season,” said P.K. Yonge coach Boderick Johnson. “I was pleased overall with the competitive effort and these games will make us better going forward.”

After losing their first two games of the tournament, Santa Fe won its final two.

The Raiders, who defeated P.K. Yonge on Wednesday, 63-54, cruised past Bronson, 84-28, on Thursday to improve to 6-4.

Columbia (Lake City) finished 1-3 at the tournament.

The Tigers (5-5) lost to Class 3A No. 4 Calvary Christian (Clearwater), 67-60, on Thursday on the final day of the 16-team tournament.

At the Battle on the Island at Fleming Island (Orange Park), Buchholz lost to Fletcher (Neptune Beach), 85-74, in the consolation championship game of the Green Championship Division. Aamari Reeves had a team-high 21 points for the Bobcats.

The ‘Cats, who dropped to 4-6, went 1-2 at the tournament. Bobcats’ senior Hayden Findlay made the All-Tournament Team.

“This week we’re just trying to get the ‘win one, lose one’ out of our system,” said Buchholz coach Blake Golden. “We have to be a little bit more dialed in on the defensive end and trust ourselves on the offensive end. But overall, we are getting better. We just need to stack more good on good.”
