Sports beat: Buchholz wins another buzzer beater

There was another buzzer beater at Buchholz High School. This time it was during the boys basketball game.

On Monday night, with the host Bobcats down one against Vanguard (Ocala), Matthew Willenborg hit a left baseline 3-pointer at the buzzer as the ‘Cats stunned the Knights with a 63-61 win.

Buchholz, which improved to 4-8, will travel to Newberry tonight at 7 and play at rival Gainesville this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Last Friday night, sophomore Toni Davis hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Lady Bobcats (11-3) defeated visiting Trenton, 37-34. Davis finished with a team-high 18 points.

Trenton bounced back with a 57-23 win at home against Bradford (Starke) on Monday night. The Lady Tigers (18-4) were led by senior Samarie McHenry with 21 points. Bri Becker added 14 points and Jordan Douglas added 13 for Trenton, which will travel to Trinity Catholic (Ocala) tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Trenton, which will host next week’s Class 1A-District 6 tournament, will close out the regular season at Bronson this Thursday night.
