On Wednesday night, the Gainesville baseball team edged Lecanto, 5-4, to split the 2-game series against the Panthers.
Sophomore Colton Kelly led the Hurricanes (6-17) with two hits, including a double, and two runs driven in. Junior Jack Herrbold was 1-for-2 and led the team with three runs driven in.
Herbold also had two of Gainesville’s six stolen bases.
Sophomore Tyler Guarino picked up the win on the mound. He allowed just two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk.
GHS is at home at 6 p.m. on Thursday against Belleview.
The ‘Canes will play Springstead (Spring Hill) in Monday’s Class 5A-District 5 quarterfinal as district tournament play begins next week.
In Alachua, the Santa Fe baseball team picked up its 20th win of the season.
The Raiders defeated Chiefland, 4-0, in their regular season home finale.
Devante Mitchum, John Rechsteiner, and Landon Rogers each had two hits. Rechsteiner drove in two of the Raiders’ four runs.
Zane Starling, who picked up the win on the mound on Tuesday against North Marion, drove in Mitchum with a double, while Rogers added the other RBI.
Ryan Brown (9-0) got the win on the mound. The Lake Sumter State College commit threw six innings and allowed no runs on three hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.
Santa Fe closes out the regular season at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Trenton.
