Sports beat: Gainesville softball team moves to 5-1

On Monday night the Gainesville softball team defeated visiting Forest (Ocala), 10-2, to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Parris Wiggs answered with a three-run homer for GHS in the bottom of the first inning in what would end up being the game-winning run. It was the first home run of the season for Wiggs.

The Hurricanes will be back in action next Tuesday, March 9, at home against Buchholz. And in high school baseball, P.K. Yonge defeated rival Oak Hall School, 7-3. The Blue Wave improved to 4-0.

(Lacrosse) – In lacrosse action, a late goal gave the Buchholz boys a 5-4 victory against Flagler Palm Coast. The game was tied 3-3 after three quarters of action. Buchholz is back in action this Friday at home against Chiles (Tallahassee).

Oak Hall was also a winner. The Eagles defeated Forest (Ocala), 23-4.

In girls action, Gainesville defeated Eastside, 15-6.
