Sports beat: GHS softball tops rival Buchholz

The Gainesville softball team moved to 6-1 with an 8-2 win against city rival Buchholz on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes got off to a great start with a 4-run first inning and led 5-0 before the visiting Bobcats (5-3) scored their first run to make it 5-1 in the fourth.

GHS will travel to Columbia (Lake City) on Thursday night at 7 p.m., while Buchholz travels to Williston on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Williston topped Trenton 7-4 Tuesday night. Talin Sandquist went 2-for-3 with a triple, while Michael Rey went 3-for-4 with a double. 

Elsewhere, the Buchholz baseball team won its fourth in a row with a 9-1 win against visiting Forest (Ocala) in a Class 6A-District 2 game. To see full game coverage click here. Buchholz resumes action at 7 p.m. Thursday at Forest.
