The Gainesville Hurricanes volleyball team picked up a road win over rival Buchholz in four sets Thursday with the final set being by a score of 30-28.
Meme Davis led the way with 13 kills, 20 digs and four aces. Senior Nicole Brandt had 21 digs, while Gia McGrew added six kills and three blocks.
It was GHS’ first win against the Bobcats in three years.
Gainesville, starting the season 1-0, will host Forest (Ocala) on Tuesday, while Buchholz, which dropped to 1-1, will travel to Trinity Catholic (Ocala) on Tuesday.
The Union County (Lake Butler) volleyball team won its third straight to open the season with a 3-1 win at home against Lafayette (Mayo). The Lady Tigers (3-0) trailed 1-0 after falling 25-21 in the opening set but they rebounded to take the next three.
Union County will travel to Bell on Monday at 6 p.m.
