Sports beat: Santa Fe College falls to top-ranked Miami Dade College

The Santa Fe College volleyball team was swept by Miami Dade College in the winners’ bracket of the FCSAA state tournament at Florida State College at Jacksonville on Friday afternoon.

The Sharks (20-0), ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA DI poll, advanced to the semifinals with a 25-17, 25-10, 25-23 win against the No. 15 Saints (16-3) in a match-up of nationally ranked teams.

Santa Fe dropped into the losers’ bracket. They will play Indian River State College at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The winner will play either Eastern Florida State College or Polk State College at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

SOFTBALL – Dixie County rallied past Bell, 4-2, on Friday night.

The Bears scored three runs in the 7th inning with two outs to improve to 11-1.

The Bulldogs had led 2-0 on a two-run home run by 8th-grader Alaina Thomas.
