The Santa Fe (Alachua) baseball team ran its win streak to nine games in a 4-0 win against visiting Keystone Heights on Monday night.
Zane Starling pitched a complete-game 3-hit shutout to earn the win.
Ryan Brown was 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
“We kind of played to our identity tonight and that’s to throw a bunch of strikes, play solid defense, and find a way to score enough runs to win,” said Santa Fe coach Travis Yeckring.
Starling struck out nine batters and only walked two.
“Zane was really good on the mound,” Yeckring said. “He’s a promising young arm that continues to get a little better every day.
Santa Fe, which improved to 10-1, will travel to North Marion (Citra) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, St. Francis Catholic Academy’s bid to rally and win in the bottom of the seventh inning for the second straight game came up just short, falling 7-6 to visiting Trenton (7-4).
Down 7-3, the Wolves scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to make it 7-6.
However, with the bases loaded, St. Francis grounded into a double play to end the game.
On Friday, the Wolves trailed by four at home against Bronson heading into their final at-bat, but they scored five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to win it 13-12.
St. Francis Catholic (3-6), which travels to Aucilla Christian (Monticello) on Friday, will be guests on “The Prep Zone” sports show at Sonic Drive-In on Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. You can listen to the show on 106.9 FM.
The Union County baseball team moved to 12-0 with a 7-1 win against IMG Blue in Bradenton.
Braxton Dukes picked up the win to move to 4-0. Dukes tossed 6.2 innings and allowed just one run.
The Buchholz baseball team is playing at the Panama City Invitational at Mosley (Lynn Haven).
The Bobcats got off to a great start in the tournament with a 7th inning walk-off 4-3 win against Arnold (Panama City). They’re back in action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Holmes County (Bonifay).
