Sports beat: Trenton softball eliminates Hawthorne

The Trenton softball team took another step toward defending its 2019 Class 1A state title.

On Wednesday night, the Tigers (17-1) erupted for 21 runs in the first inning and routed Hawthorne, 21-0 in three innings, to advance to next Tuesday’s region final.

Trenton will play the winner of tomorrow’s game between Williston and Dixie County (Cross City).

(BASEBALL) – Wednesday’s Santa Fe College vs. Northwest Florida State College baseball game at the FCSAA state tournament at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland started out as a pitcher’s duel.

Santa Fe’s Robb Adams struck out the first batter and two of the first three that he faced.

NWF’s Dylan Delucia also struck out two in the first inning.

It was just a 1-0 lead for NWF after three innings.

However, the Raiders (30-15) broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the 7th and four in the 8th on the way to an 11-3 win in eight innings.

Adams (6-2), the Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year, took the loss, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing five earned runs on eight hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

NWF finished with 13 hits in the game, while Santa Fe only had five.

The Saints (29-12), who are ranked No. 8 in the NJCAA DI poll, will play at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the losers’ bracket against Indian River State College, which lost 12-8 to No. 11 Florida Southwestern State College.
