Sports beat: Union County baseball team improves to 13-0

On Tuesday, the Union County baseball team moved to 13-0 with a 9-5 win against IMG Navy in Bradenton.

Whip Davis (4-0) picked up the win by tossing 5.2 innings and giving up just four hits. Eli Rimes got the save.

Jake O’Steen went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs driven in for the Tigers. Tripp Davis was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Paden Clyatt was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Ayden Elixson was 2-for-2 with two runs driven in.

Union County is off until next week when the Tigers travel to Hamilton County (Jasper) on Tuesday, March 30. First pitch is at 4 p.m.

The Santa Fe baseball team has its own streak going on.

The Raiders won at North Marion (Citra), 6-1, for its 10th straight victory.

Santa Fe (11-1) got the only runs it would need in the top half of the 2nd inning. Zach Deason had a sacrifice fly that scored John Rechsteiner, and Devan Mitchum scored on a wild pitch.

Ryan Brown picked up the win on the mound by throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just one run on five hits. He walked three and struck out six.

The Raiders will travel to Keystone Heights on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Buchholz won its second straight game at the Panama City Invitational at Mosley (Lynn Haven). The Bobcats improved to 8-3-1 with a 10-2 win against Holmes County.

Anthony Wilkie picked up the win on the mound with six strong innings.

Senior Caden Kresak finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in, while senior Brett Blair went 1-for-4 and also drove in two runs.

Buchholz will play host Mosley (Lynn Haven) on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

Elsewhere, Baldwin defeated Bradford (Starke), 10-4, dropping the Tornadoes to 1-9.
