
A seventh-inning run broke a tie and propelled Suwannee to the Class 4A baseball Region 1 Final.
In a game where scoring came at a premium, the top-seeded Bulldogs edged fifth-seeded Clay, 2-1, in the 4A-Region 1 Semifinals in Live Oak on Saturday.
Suwanee (23-4) scored a run in the bottom of the third before Clay (18-11) tied the contest in the top of the fifth inning.
Matthew Gill pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs, striking out eight while allowing five hits and two walks.
Caston Palmer scored both runs for the Bulldogs and Camden Frier was the only Suwannee batter with multiple hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate while stealing two bases. Tyson Greene hit a double and Gill drove in the only RBI.
The Class 4A top-ranked Bulldogs advanced to the regional semifinal contest by beating Baker County (Glen St. Mary), 11-5, on Thursday. Clay defeated Santa Fe (Alachua), 12-9, in 10 innings.
Suwannee will host No. 2 seed Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) in the 4A Region 1 Final on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
