On Saturday, July 18, the P.K. Yonge Volleyball team and the Taurean Green Foundation will host a fun day of golf, and for a good cause.

From balls and carts to PKY volleyball caddies, the charity tournament, which will be held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida, supports youth development, academics, athletics, leadership, and mentorship opportunities.

“This foundation is my way of giving back to a community that’s meant so much to me since my time here over 20 years ago,” said former Gator basketball player and current UF assistant coach Taurean Green. “My hope is that it continues to create opportunities, inspire young people, and make a lasting impact on Gainesville for years to come.“

According to P.K. Yonge volleyball coach Chancie Vice, this is an inaugural charity golf tournament that will become an annual tradition.

“As we’ve continued to grow the volleyball program at P.K. Yonge, we wanted to create a fundraiser that not only supports our student-athletes but also brings the Gainesville community together,” Vice said. “We wanted something that was bigger than volleyball and a chance to connect athletics, philanthropy and local businesses in a meaningful way.”

Vice was introduced to Green by one of the Lady Blue Wave volleyball parents, Vincent Hampton, who Vice said is “a tremendous community advocate in Gainesville.”

“Last fall, we hosted a team dinner where Coach Green served as our guest speaker, and the impact he had on our athletes was incredible,” said Vice, who took over as P.K. Yonge head coach in 2024. “After that, I began talking with Taurean and his manager, Jessica, and it quickly became clear that we shared the same vision of using sports to create opportunities for young people. His foundation is centered around mentorship, education, and youth development, so partnering together felt like a natural fit. We’re thrilled he’ll be speaking again during the lunch at the golf tournament, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything he’s doing to support our program.”

Vice said Green has always been passionate about investing in young people, and that’s something that aligns perfectly with what they’re building at P.K. Yonge.

“We’re excited to partner with P.K. Yonge Volleyball for our charity golf tournament,” said Green, a three-time national champion who earned two as the point guard for Florida’s 2006 and 2007 national championship teams and a third as an assistant coach in 2025. “With my team that’s from Gainesville and deeply rooted in this community, creating opportunities and giving back has always been at the heart of our foundation. It’s great to come together with another local program to make a positive impact.”

The event takes place at 8:30 a.m. on the 18th with a shotgun start and team scramble format. It’s $75 per player or $300 for a team of four.

The event will include competitive golf play, a silent auction, awards and prizes, networking opportunities, and community engagement. The awards will include a first place team, longest drive, best dressed and a Spirit of Charity Award.

One lucky winner will receive an autographed Florida Gators basketball signed by the entire UF men’s basketball coaching staff, as well as a four-person team entry into their upcoming golf tournament.

But what’s really exciting is that it’s much more than just a golf tournament.

“We’ll have Adams Rib & Co. sponsoring lunch, GainZ’ville Hub setting up an açaí bowl station, Stretch Zone helping golfers loosen up before and after they play and a live DJ during our catered lunch,” Vice said. “Sponsors like D1 Training, Honda of Gainesville, and Tower Hill Insurance will also be set up throughout the course, creating a really fun experience for everyone.”

Even if you’re not a golfer, there’s something for you.

“This is truly a community event,” Vice said. “As part of the Gator experience, we’ll also have current UF student-athletes volunteering their time, meeting guests, and interacting with attendees. Gator great Pierre Banks will be there as well. It’s shaping up to be an incredible day.”

In addition to Green leading the event, other former Gator greats like Patric Young and members of the 2025 UF national championship team are expected to stop by, including former Hawthorne great C.J. Ingram, whose younger sister will be attending P.K. Yonge in the fall.

It’s going to be a really unique opportunity for Gator fans to interact with these athletes in a relaxed setting.

“For those who don’t golf, we have networking tickets available for just $50,” Vice said. “Those include the catered lunch, networking reception, opportunities to meet the athletes, the silent auction, and all of the activities happening throughout the event. It’s a great way for the community to get involved without purchasing a golf team or player spot.”

Every dollar raised goes directly back into creating better opportunities for student-athletes. It helps fund equipment, travel, tournament expenses, training resources, and experiences that might not otherwise be possible.

“Our goal is to provide a championship-level experience while developing confident leaders both on and off the court,” Vice said. “Community support allows us to continue raising the standard of our program and invest in these young women in meaningful ways.”

Vice is entering her third season as head coach of the Lady Blue Wave.

“I’m really proud of the foundation we’ve built,” she said. “Over the last two years, we’ve focused on creating a culture centered around accountability, hard work, and genuine connection. We’ve seen tremendous growth, not just in our level of play, but in the confidence, leadership, and character of our athletes.

As P.K. Yonge heads into this season, Vice believes this group “has the potential to do something special.”

“We have experienced returners, talented young players coming in, and a team that’s hungry to keep building,” she said. “More than anything, I’m excited to watch these young women continue to grow together and see just how far they can go.”
