Fall is officially underway, but the fall high school sports regular seasons are almost over.

Volleyball is in its final two weeks, with district tournament play beginning the week of Oct. 13, and we are entering the final month of the regular season for high school football.

The last regular season playing date for swimming and diving (Oct. 18), golf (Oct. 25), and cross country (Nov. 1) is approaching too.

Tonight from 6 to 7 p.m., join me from Sonic Drive-In on 39th Avenue in Gainesville for “The Prep Zone” sports show. My guest for this episode is Newberry volleyball coach Hank Rone, who also serves as ‘color’ commentator for our high school football game of the week on 106.9 FM “I am Country.” We’ll have a mid-year recap of the fall sports, plus talk about the new FHSAA rankings for volleyball and football.

You can listen to the show online, both ‘live’ and ‘archived,’ at Mainstreet Daily News and ThePrepZone.com.

On Thursday night, tune in to the Jacksonville Jaguars Coaches Show on 106.9 FM “I am Country,” followed by this Monday night’s game at home against the Kansas City Chiefs. The pregame show begins at 7 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 8:15 p.m.

We have a pair of high school football broadcasts on Friday.

The Buchholz football team is back at Citizens Field for a city showdown against rival Gainesville High School.

The Bobcats (5-1), who used a complete game effort to defeat Nease (Ponte Vedra), 27-7, at home last week in the Class 6A-District 3 opener, have moved up to No. 3 overall in Florida and No. 2 in 6A in the latest FHSAA rankings.

They will be the visiting team against GHS, which has lost six in a row in the series.

The Hurricanes (2-3), who were on a bye last week, are playing a home game for the first time this season. GHS, which lost to Forest (Ocala) 24-13 on Sept. 19, has played on the road for five straight games and will play its final five games at Citizens Field.

Audio of the game will be streamed online at Mainstreet Daily News. Join Cam Parker (Play-by-play) and Aiden Wacksman (Color) for all the action. The pregame show begins at 7:20 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 7:35 p.m.

Our radio broadcast will originate from Gilchrist County.

Trenton, which just lost its first game of the season last week to Chiefland, 41-0, will host Oak Hall, the last unbeaten area team left.

It’s Homecoming for the Tigers (4-1), who are led by new football coach Bryant Frye, while the Eagles are 5-0 in R.J. Fuhr’s second stint after a rare losing season.

Join Mainstreet Daily News Sports Director Mike Ridaught (Play-by-play) and former Gator football player Hank Rone (Color) for all the action.

You can listen to the game on 106.9 FM “I am Country” with audio online at IamCountryGainesville.com beginning at 7 p.m. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
