Newberry 54, Hamilton County 23
This past Friday night, the Newberry Panthers won its fifth straight game with a 54-23 win against visiting Hamilton County (Jasper). It was also their largest margin of victory this season.
Senior quarterback Makai Johnson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another, and senior running back Kobe Delima added three rushing touchdowns for the Panthers, who improved to 5-1.
Newberry goes for six in a row this Friday at home against Dixie County. The Bears (4-1) won their fourth in a row with a 42-7 win against Lafayette (Mayo).
Dixie County 42, Lafayette 7
On Friday night in Cross City, the Dixie County football team moved to 4-1 with a 42-7 win against Lafayette (Mayo). The Bears jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter. Dixie County football coach LB Cravey said his team was ready for the Hornets, after losing their first game of the season last year to them.
Bell 52, St. Francis Catholic Academy 36
This past Friday night, the Bell Bulldogs defeated visiting St. Francis Catholic Academy 52-36.
Bulldogs’ quarterback Caden Hastings accounted for 26 points. The senior quarterback rushed for 144 yards and scored four touchdowns as the ‘Dogs, who never trailed in the game, improved to 2-3.
Hastings scored on a 16-yard TD run with 10:40 to play in the second quarter for a 14-6 lead and he finished the half with a 7-yard scoring run with 12 seconds left in the second quarter for a 22-6 lead at the break.
He added a 4-yard TD run, and the 2-point conversion run, with 5:26 to play in the third for a 30-22 lead just after the Wolves (0-6) had tied the game at 22-22. His final score of the night came on a 6-yard run with 4:49 to play to put the game out of reach at 52-30.
Bell, which finished with over 300 yards rushing, will travel to Trenton this Friday. The Tigers (2-4) got back in the win column with a 33-15 win against Chiefland.
Bronson 26, Tenorac 8
Bronson (4-2) defeated Tenoroc (Lakeland), 26-8. Xavier Guyton carried the ball 18 times for 247 yards with three touchdowns and a two-point conversion. And Williston (2-4) lost at home to unbeaten Wildwood, 49-16.
Buchholz 48, Steinbrenner 28
Buchholz (3-1) defeated Class 8A Steinbrenner, 48-28. Quan Lee had a pair of touchdown catches in the first half, including a 55-yard scoring catch to open the scoring in the second quarter. He finished with three scores, while Quan Smith added a pair of rushing scores in the second half.
Wildwood 49, Williston 16
The Wildwood Wildcats brought their high-octane offense to Williston Friday night, and walked away with a big win. The Wildcats scored 35 first half points en route to a 49-16 victory over the Williston Red Devils in week six of high school football Friday night.
The win keeps the Wildcats undefeated, as they are 5-0 on the season.
Williston falls to 2-4 and plays at Union County next week.
Suwannee 47, Palatka 0
The Suwannee Bulldogs scored 38 first half points, and never looked back, routing the Palatka Panthers 47-0 in week six of high school football Friday night.
Suwannee improved to 4-2 on the season, and face Wakulla next Friday.
Palatka remains winless on the season at 0-6.
Santa Fe 10, Union County 7
The Santa Fe Raiders overcame a 7-0 halftime deficit with 10 second half points to beat the Union County Tigers 10-7.
Union County falls to 3-2 and plays Williston at home next week. Santa Fe is 2-3 and plays Palatka at home next week.
Bradford 28, Hawthorne 25
The Bradford Tornadoes rallied from a 25-8 deficit with 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Hawthorne Hornets 28-25 Thursday night in Starke.
Hawthorne took the early lead with 13 first quarter points, but the Tornadoes answered in the second quarter with an early touchdown and two-point conversion to cut the lead to 13-8, which is how it stayed until halftime.
The Hornets extended their lead in the third quarter with two touchdowns to take a 25-8 lead into the final period.
But in the fourth quarter, the Tornadoes put on a furious rally with three touchdowns of their own to take a 28-25 lead and rally past previously unbeaten Hornets.
The victory gives Bradford a 2-4 record, while Hawthorne falls to 3-1.
Next week the Hornets are back home against Union County, while Bradford travels to Gainesville to take on PK Yonge.
Trenton 33, Chiefland 15
The ‘Border War’ is over.
The Trenton Tigers scored 12 first quarter points and cruised past the Chiefland Indians 33-15 in week six football of high school football Friday night.
Chiefland is 1-3 and plays Hamilton County at home next week. Trenton is 2-4 and plays Bell at home next week.
Madison County 12, Columbia 0
The Madison County Cowboys posted 12 first quarter points and then held on to defeat the Columbia Tigers 12-0.
Columbia is 0-3 on the season and is home against Robert E. Lee High School of Jacksonville next week.
Madison County is 5-1.
