Wildwood pounds Newberry 49-16

The rollercoaster ride finally ended for Newberry.

After losing its opening game to Hawthorne, the Panthers ran off a seven game winning streak, which included cancelled games, bouts with COVID, and come-from-behind victories. But the ride ended abruptly when the Wildwood Wildcats put on an offensive show, defeating the Panthers 49-16 Friday night in the second round of the Class 1-A playoffs to end their season.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start with 30 first half points, and seemed unstoppable offensively. Two more scores in the third quarter extended the Wildcat lead to 42-16, and put the game out of reach.
