Branford sweeps Williston, advances to 3rd straight title game

Entering Tuesday’s FHSAA Rural state semifinal at Polk State College in Winter Haven, the Williston volleyball team was playing in its third final four appearance all-time.

Branford was seeking its third straight title game appearance.

The No. 1-ranked Bucs (23-4) made quick work of the Red Devils (11-11) with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 sweep to advance to Wednesday’s championship game that starts at 4 p.m.

They will face No. 2 Chipley, which defeated defending state champion Liberty County (Bristol) 25-14, 21-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-10 in the other state semifinal.

Branford senior Adriauna Combs led the Bucs with 9 kills and eighth grader Lalyn Sikes had 7 kills and 9 digs. Junior Anabella Dicks tallied 7 kills and 14 digs, while senior Mylie Fernandez had 4 kills, 2 aces and 11 digs. Junior Kaleah Tucker also had 4 kills and sophomore Ava Alcorn had 12 digs.

For Williston, senior Madison Perkins led the Red Devils with 5 kills, along with 5 digs. Senior Berkley Brooks had 15 digs and 4 kills, and senior Amelia Smith had 4 digs.
