
- Seven candidates will compete for three seats in Newberry, and three candidates will compete for Seat 3 in Alachua during the April 14 election.
- Forums are free and public, with livestreams on Facebook and recordings available, offering equal platform opportunities for all candidates.
The League of Women Voters of Alachua County (LWVAC) will host two candidate forums for the upcoming elections on April 14 in the cities of Newberry and Alachua.
Newberry has seven candidates vying for three city commission seats, while Alachua has three candidates running for Seat 3.
The forum schedule is below:
- Newberry City Commission Candidate Forum – 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Mentholee Norfleet Municipal Building (25440 W Newberry Rd. in Newberry). All candidates have been invited to participate. Contests for Groups 1, 2, and 3 will be on the ballot.
- Alachua City Commission Candidate Forum – Noon on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Alachua Branch Library (14913 NW 140th St. in Alachua). All candidates have been invited to participate. Only the Seat 3 contest will be on the ballot.
According to the LWVAC release, “each forum will give all candidates the same opportunity to discuss their platforms, address key issues, and interact with residents. The event will be moderated to ensure a fair and respectful discussion.”
The forums are free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the League will offer a livestream on its Facebook page and will make a full recording available after each event.
The LWVAC, a non-partisan organization dedicated to informing and engaging voters, does not take positions or make endorsements in any race for political office, and neither supports nor oppose any particular candidate or party.
